The Plasma Pen

The Plasma Pen is a pen-like device used to treat a variety of skin conditions through ‘fibroblast therapy’. It is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure that works by channelling electric energies to release plasma gas. The aim is to make skin firmer and tighter by inducing trauma that triggers skin cells called fibroblasts to produce more collagen.

Some of the conditions the Plasma Pen can treat include: fine lines, wrinkles, stretch marks, skin tags, acne scars, plump lines, and sunspots.

Yes. I always recommend a consultation to rule out any contraindications. The treatment can be performed on the same day, time permitting, or you can choose to visit for a free consultation and return for the treatment another day. If your skin is not in the right condition to recieve a plasma treatment, you will be recommended appropriate home-care products to use as well as one to two facials to get your skin in good enough condition that you will achieve maximum results from the treatment. This is not the case for everyone, however if you are a skincare novice with a very basic routine, it is unrealistic to expect that you can go straight into a highly advanced skin treatment without prepping your skin first. Plasma treatments are not like having a facial and should not be taken lightly.

During your consultation, you’ll receive both pre- and post-treatment instructions, along with a detailed explanation of all precautions and considerations. On the day of your appointment, you’ll be given a take-home aftercare kit, which is included in the treatment cost.

Pain tolerance varies from person to person, so while some may find the treatment more comfortable than others, most of our clients report minimal discomfort. The eye and neck areas tend to be the most sensitive. If you’d like, you can bring a topical numbing cream for me to apply before your session. Please note that we do not supply numbing products due to legal and insurance requirements. While some salons may overlook this, we prioritize your safety and adhere to best practices.

Many clients notice an immediate difference, but the most visible results appear after the scabs naturally fall away around day 7. Improvements continue over the next 2-3 months, and results can last anywhere from 2 to 5 years, depending on factors such as genetics, skincare habits, and lifestyle.

For many clients, a single session is enough. However, the number of treatments required depends on individual factors such as skin condition, expectations, and the treatment area. Eyelid treatments often require multiple sessions, whereas wrinkle treatments typically need just one. If additional treatments are needed, we recommend spacing them 2-3 months apart.

Results generally last between 2 to 5 years. However, factors like skincare routine, lifestyle, and natural aging will influence longevity. If desired, the procedure can be repeated at any time.

Plasma treatments are very safe when performed correctly. We carefully assess each client to ensure there are no contraindications that could lead to unwanted reactions. In rare cases, minor side effects such as sensitivity to numbing cream, delayed healing, redness, swelling, or slight tingling may occur. Proper aftercare is crucial to prevent complications.

Immediately after the procedure, the treated area may appear red and slightly swollen for up to 3 days. Small carbon dots will form and gradually dry into tiny scabs—these must not be picked or scratched, as this could lead to scarring.

This procedure may not be suitable for individuals with the following conditions:

  • Pregnancy or potential pregnancy
  • Pacemakers or other electrical implants (doctor’s approval required)
  • Active herpes in the treatment area
  • Metal implants in the treatment area (doctor’s approval required)
  • Insulin-dependent diabetes (doctor’s approval required, as healing may be slower)
  • Infectious diseases
  • Epilepsy
  • History of keloid scarring
  • Active eczema or psoriasis in the treatment area
  • Active vitiligo

If you’re unsure about your suitability, we’re happy to discuss your options during a consultation.
